The man

Ed “IdioC” Neal is a postgraduate Chemistry student from the UK, having spent most of his life in Wiltshire and Berkshire in the south of England before graduating from Bristol University. He has in interest in some computer games, beer (especially ale and brewing),  spending too much time on the internet and has varied yet selective music tastes. He dislikes celery and referring to himself in the third person. If it were possible to put a straitjacket on an askew imagination and metaphor abuse, he’d know but probably be unable to tell you.

The name

The “IdioC” nick came as a rebus (The “C” is capitalised intentionally to be pronounced as “C”) and as a self-deprecating remark after a bout of bad typing on an IM client back in early 2003. Many have either said “Id-ee-ock” due to many online nicks having capitals where they don’t belong or, in the case of 13-year-olds on game servers probably using AOL, suggested that the C should be a T, missing the point of the name entirely. Although often abbreviated to “C”, there isn’t a C in his real name. He’s still using the third person for himself, isn’t he? Sounding pretentious yet?

The site

The site originally came into being near the end of February 2003, involving gratuitous abuse of Flash animation, frames and lime green lettering on black. It contained animations, musings, edited or original images as well as text rants involving nonsense about made-up Egyptian Gods. Several incarnations, including a Flash only version from mid 2004 to 2005, kept the lime green and black theme against all reasonable taste, decency or common sense, as well as became a nuisance to update. It has returned with a tasteful engine, a cleaner aesthetic (I hope) and in being easier to update, hopefully more content. He politely asks if he can stop using the third person now. Seriously, it’s grating me down.
