Thanks for the support that has helped keep this site going for 3 years. You might expect this to be a letter announcing the closure of the site but I'm damned if that's going to happen any time soon. While "Problems" may have freaked some of you out, I5D is still running. This is just a major news post of sorts. If you did think the site was going to close, 98% of the site's traffic is laughing at you. It's a way of showing affection. Merely plutonically of course.
I figured that with the complete absence of new content for half a year almost now, I'd better make a long and reasoned case for not sending hatemail, burning the cartoons or protesting with banners saying "We want Ep5, you lazy git". Sorry to have to use the "I'm one of you guys" routine, but it's true, I've been wanting to see these done for ages. There's just something about the little fellers that makes me smile. It might be something to do with taking the piss out of my friends. So, here's what my life has had over the last months gone by:
University life: This involves a lot more work than A-Levels did. I hear you say, "Well, duh". I hear your "Well, duh" and raise you a "So, you understood all along really!". It also means I have to go food shopping sometimes. That and I'm slightly more sociable than I was during A-Levels. See? Blame society.
Time: The consequence of University life is the lack of time I've had to apply myself to websitey things.
Illness: Being in a hall with lots of other people from all over the country (and some international students) means you're being exposed to bugs and nasties they're all developed immunities to, but you've not. This is not xenophobic, because I'm sure some of them caught certain cold strains off me in fresher's week as well. I write this after a week-long bought with flu (Don't worry, not Bird Flu. H3N2, not H5N1 (Damn you microbiology open unit...)). That and the food is sometimes suspect.
So, seriously, what does this mean for I5D? Well, my plans are to bring the C-ronicles to an end. I've been trying to revive the concept but have simply run out of steam. C-ronicle 20 will be the last, and then the C-ronicles will be left on the website for perusal as a closed chapter. Half of you probably don't know what they are anyway. Something about cynical bastardry and Egyptian gods or something.
Pickleworld, however, is whole different kettle of fish. I set a deadline for Episode 4 and I half-kept it. It was rushed, and so many corners had to be cut with it. I didn't really think it was as good as it could have been. Episode 5 has been delayed because of having to do half a million (this may be an exagguration) new sprites for backgrounds and props. That, and I refuse to cut the corners I did for four. When five comes out, I will be a much happier man. HOWEVER, we are not letting you go Pickleworld-less in the intra-episodal (this may be a made up word) void. The plotline was formed, but how did it come to be? Steve (Vlad) and I had planned this to be released after Episode 5 but due to my time problems and mental problems we've decided to introduce Pickleworld: The New Inanimate Adventures now. The idea is this will be updated at the weekends, but you've probably lost all faith in my ability to keep a deadline nowadays. Truth be told, I don't blame you.
So vote IdioC '06 for I5D and you'll... *cough* *ahem* *splutter* ah, yes. Work on Episode 5 will continue while the inanimate adventures progress. Another reason for this HTML old skool news post is that the I5D flash site is proving a nuisance to update and Israkai hasn't been completed for the same reasons Episode 5 hasn't, minus the artist whinges. I'm now considering replacing the flash site with a PHP/MySQL job with some flash features (of course, the animations will be in flash). The flashsite is still up here.
In the Easter Holidays (24th March - 24th April) I intend to resolve the website issues and hopefully have lots more time for Ep5.
Regards,
IdioC
